The Lord has done great things for usand we are filled with joy. Psalm 126:3
The House of Hope ministry is grounded in Matthew 25:35-40. We minister to men and women whose lives have been devastated by crime, drugs and alcohol. ‘For I was hungry and you gave me food; I was thirsty and you gave me drink; I was a stranger and you took me in; I was naked and you clothed me: I was sick and you visited me; I was in prison and you came to me.’.
The House of Hope of Alachua County, Inc.'s mission is to:
(a) Provide a welcoming, nurturing Christ-centered environment which encourages and guides Christian ex-offenders, both male and female, to serve and grow in the Lord as they are productively assimilated into society.
(b) Encourage and enable our residents to get on their feet during this critical time of transition through assistance with the basic needs of food, shelter, spiritual development, opportunities for employment, and life-skills training in a highly structured program of personal accountability.
(c) Surround our residents with Christian love and support, so that they may grow and serve in the Lord to become productive, appreciative members of our society.
d) Provide opportunities for other agencies, groups, churches, ministries, etc., to support and assist the program and its guests so as to provide a greater benefit to the surrounding community-at-large.
The House of Hope in Gainesville Florida was established in 1995 to minister to men in prison and provide a faith based program as they transition back into society. Volunteers from the House of Hope visit men and women in prison and minister to their needs. We provide faith based discipleship, mentoring, fellowship and study of the Word while they are incarcerated. We screen and select applicants for our transitional discipleship program as we visit them. Upon leaving prison the men are brought to the house and provided with God’s love, mentoring, fellowship, shelter, clothing and hope for a better life through Jesus Christ. The House of Hope is about the freedom of Jesus Christ and His power to transform lives. We believe that Jesus Christ is the answer to the devastating grip of sin on so many lives and we minister His freedom to those we serve.
The House of Hope is a faith based discipleship program that derives all its power in teaching men and women about the grace of God and His proven ability to change hearts, minds, and behavior. Christ came to set the prisoner free and we participate with Him in accomplishing this great endeavor. We are an extension of Jesus Christ, His hope, and provision to change lives. The commitment of Jesus Christ to set captives free is reflected in the fact 80% of our graduates never return to jail or prison.
The ministry has continued to grow and serve more men since its inception. The founders of the House of Hope did so under the guidance of God as a non denominational ministry. We are an extension of the local church and we receive financial donations from a variety of denominations.
We currently have three buildings and seven acres of land in Gainesville Florida. We are able to house thirteen men and are working to meet the needs of women. We are ever trying to help as many prisoners as the Lord allows. The need is great for prison transitional ministry as evidenced by the names on our waiting list.
